SWCS History and Mission

SWCS was created in 2000 as a university and community partnership with a dual mission. As an agency, SWCS dedicated itself to improving the quality of life of the citizens of Chester by providing human services that are responsive to the needs of the community and developing quality internship experiences that produce competent and caring social workers committed to serving disadvantaged populations and communities.

Over the past 14 years, SWCS has partnered with over 20 community human service organizations and SWCS interns have provided thousands of hours of social work services and programing to residents of the Chester and its surrounding communities.  Previously located at Community Hospital in the heart the city of Chester, SWCS delivered a range of services to clients ranging from young children to the elderly as individuals, couples and families. Services included case management, on site outpatient individual, family and couples therapy, crisis intervention, welfare to work & GED programming, and assessment at low or no cost to residents of Delaware County.

In 2012, SWCS moved to its current location with a focus on placing interns within varying types of community agencies to provide high quality services on site, while continuing the support and training SWCS interns have always received. This allows interns the exciting opportunity to learn and apply high quality social work skills, while experiencing the life of a generalist or clinical social worker in a real world setting.
